The Evolution of DepositQuest

It Began with BankDealsBlog

Tumin’s first venture began in 2005 with the BankDealsBlog.com – a hobby started while he was a full-time engineer. Being a saver who wanted to maximize the yield on his savings he was motivated to post daily to the blog. After several months of daily posting, his number of readers grew. Tumin realized that there were many dedicated savers throughout the nation, and they were using the internet to shop for the best deposit rates. Even better, readers often provided valuable feedback on the banks and the accounts. This was not only helpful to the blog, but to other readers as well. A community of dedicated savers formed.

BankDealsBlog Morphs into DepositAccounts

After a few years, the BankDealsBlog readership and community had grown beyond what Tumin thought possible. This growth was also helped by mentions of the blog in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and other major media sites. That publicity caught the eye of an investment group, who eventually formed a partnership with Tumin to create a new website, DepositAccounts.com. Tumin became the primary writer, media expert and website consultant.

The new website quickly became more than just a blog. It added rate tables, a forum, a bank review database and information on all banks and credit unions in the nation. DepositAccounts grew to be one of the best resources for deposits on the web.

LendingTree Acquires DepositAccounts

The success of the website caught the eye of LendingTree, which had started pursuing multiple acquisitions. In 2017, LendingTree bought DepositAccounts and Tumin remained with the site as the primary writer, media expert and senior analyst on deposits. However, in recent years, search engine optimization has become the primary focus of web content in almost every industry. Tumin felt this shift to SEO content negatively impacted the usefulness of the site for the community of dedicated savers, many who had followed and contributed to the site for more than a decade. Tumin left LendingTree, and all involvement with DepositAccounts, in August 2024. Although his picture still remains on the DepositAccount blog page, Tumin has NO involvement with the site or LendingTree

DepositQuest Begins

Kent Jaminson, a long-time reader of Tumin’s sites, decided to start a Substack site to carry on the content that Tumin had previously provided. Jaminson named the Substack, DepositQuest, symbolizing the quest of dedicated savers to find the best deposit rates and deals. In September 2025, Tumin and Jaminson joined forces to work together and use this DepositQuest website to promote this new venture. For now, most of the DepositQuest content will be published on the DepositQuest.substack.com.
